Stoke announces signing of Darren Fletcher on free transfer
The next chapter of Darren Fletcher's inspirational career will be written at the bet365 Stadium.
On Thursday, Stoke City announced the signing of Fletcher on a free transfer. The Scottish midfielder, who is the Potters' first signing of the summer transfer window, will join the club on July 1, following the expiration of his contract with West Bromwich Albion.
Fletcher joined West Brom from Manchester United on a free transfer in 2015, and was quickly appointed as the Baggies' captain by Tony Pulis. In 2016-17, he appeared in all 38 of the club's Premier League fixtures, tallying two goals and three assists throughout the season.
"It's all happened incredibly quickly, but I am delighted to be here," Fletcher said. "This is a fantastic club with a top manager and a great group of players and I am really looking forward to this opportunity. I loved every moment of my time at West Bromwich Albion and I loved every moment of my time with Manchester United, but this is a new challenge for me now, and I like to think I respond well to new challenges."
