Report: Dani Alves verbally agrees to join PSG
Dani Alves has given his word to Paris Saint-Germain that he will sign with the club, according to reliable RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi, leaving Manchester City in the lurch.
Pep Guardiola had been poised to welcome back the 34-year-old, whom he managed at Barcelona, but the Ligue 1 powerhouse has apparently hijacked the deal.
Guardiola is "livid" with the new developments, Goal's City correspondent, Sammy Lee, wrote on Twitter.
PSG said in a brief statement on its website that it has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET (4 p.m. local time), which could feature Alves' unveiling.
After Juventus agreed to terminate Alves' contract, all signs indicated the Brazilian international would move to the Etihad.
Guardiola identified the full-back position as an area of improvement, and given the fact he enjoyed a respectful relationship with the player in the Catalan capital, it appeared a near-certainty the Spanish manager would once again get his way.
But over the past few days, rumours grew of an attempt by PSG to commandeer negotiations.
Those suggestions became concrete on Tuesday, with Bouhafsi, newspaper L'Equipe, and The Telegraph's Jason Burt all reporting that a deal is close to completion.
Alves spent just a single season in Italy, where he won a domestic double with Juventus.
