Arsenal, Liverpool settle for draw in 6-goal roller coaster

Arsenal and Liverpool's supporters were given a heart attack for Christmas, as one of the most absurd games of the Premier League season took place at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.

In a game that was just as preposterous as it was memorable, a 3-3 draw was played out by Arsenal and Liverpool in which the Reds were brilliant for most of the match but conceded three goals in a five-minute spell. It was a fixture that made little to no sense, and exposed the faults of both clubs as the second half of the Premier League season got underway.

Liverpool took a two-goal lead courtesy of Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah. Both goals were inevitably tallied on the counter-attack, and it seemed like the Reds would humiliate the Gunners as they did at Anfield in August. But Alexis Sanchez, Grant Xhaka, and Mesut Ozil scored in the span of 388 seconds, as the club from north London took control in the blink of an eye. The chaos didn't end there, either. Roberto Firmino leveled the score shortly after, and the end-to-end football continued until the final whistle.

The result left Liverpool one point ahead of Arsenal in the standings going into Christmas. The Gunners' next game is scheduled for Thursday, when they visit Crystal Palace, while the Reds will host Swansea City on Boxing Day.
