Report: Jones, Delph a doubt for England after missed training session
England's injury woes haven't stopped at the training camp gate, as the already shorthanded Three Lions were dealt another setback in the form of unspecified injuries to Manchester City defensive midfielder Fabian Delph and Manchester United centre-back Phil Jones.
England manager Gareth Southgate, who earlier lamented the absence of a dozen preferred options in his player pool, must now adapt to life without two more, as Delph and Jones missed training and are a doubt for the last two World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania, according to Sky Sports.
The report adds that Delph and Jones will be assessed by the national team's medical staff on Monday afternoon before a decision is made on whether they'll return to their respective clubs to undergo treatment.
Delph performed admirably in his pseudo-full-back role last Saturday as City edged Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Deputised as a left-back, he popped in and out of midfield, keeping tabs on Chelsea's attacking wingers while also helping Fernandinho in the middle.
Jones has been a stalwart in Jose Mourinho's backline this season, playing every minute of United's seven Premier League fixtures.
England, currently top of Group F in World Cup qualifying, would secure a berth in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a win over Slovenia. The Three Lions remain undefeated and have amassed 20 points out of eight matches, winning six and drawing twice.
