Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren revealed that he and his family have received "disgusting" death threat.
The Croatian international has attracted plenty of negative attention this season after a frustrating opening few months with Liverpool.
While he's learned to handle the criticism that comes with being a professional football player, Lovren wasn't willing to ignore a direct death threat.
Lovren, according to the Press Association, responded to the threat on Instagram: "I don't mind when people talk shit about me, it says more about them! But I cannot ignore when my family is threatened. I just can't and won't accept that. Disgusting."
His response came after he allegedly received a message from a follower that read: "I'm gonna murder ur family u Croatian prick."
The low point of Lovren's season on the pitch occurred during Liverpool's 4-1 loss to Tottenham when he was substituted out of the encounter after just 31 minutes.
Ahead of Liverpool's Champions League match against Maribor on Wednesday, Manager Jurgen Klopp refused to field questions over the death threat but said that he intends to speak with Lovren at the team's training ground later in the day.
