Report: Ozil becomes Arsenal's highest-paid player with new contract
Arsenal appears to be on the verge of ending speculation over Mesut Ozil's future by signing the German midfielder to a contract that runs until 2021, reports David Ornstein of BBC Sport.
The agreement was apparently reached last weekend and made official Wednesday morning at Arsenal's Colney training ground.
Ozil will become the highest-paid player in club history, according to Ornstein, as he'll earn about £350,000 a week before taxes.
An official announcement from the club will end months of uncertainty over the future of Ozil. He was set to become a free agent this summer when his contract expired in June.
The extension means Ozil could potentially stretch his stay with the Gunners to eight years following his £42.4-million transfer from Real Madrid in 2013.
Ozil, who has scored 36 goals in 182 appearances, has recorded more assists than any other player in the Premier League during his three-and-a-half years in England's top flight. He also helped the north London outfit win a pair of FA Cups.
News of Ozil's long-term contract emerged in the wake of forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's arrival from Borussia Dortmund for a club-record fee.
