Herrera denies match-fixing while at former club Zaragoza

Ander Herrera proclaimed his innocence while Spanish judges investigate a match between his former employer Real Zaragoza and Levante from May 2011.

The Manchester United midfielder was substituted 72 minutes into the 2-1 victory at Levante and, just as he did when the match first went under scrutiny in 2014, he denies having anything to do with manipulating the result. He was aged 21 at the time, and the final score allowed both teams to avoid relegation from La Liga.

"If I am ever called to testify in a judicial hearing, I will be delighted to attend as my conscience is totally clear," Herrera said in a statement, as reported by Sky Sports.

"I love football and I believe in fair play, both on and off the pitch."

Herrera, now 28, joined Manchester United from Athletic Club in 2014, and lost his place in Jose Mourinho's regular starting XI this season. He has started just eight Premier League games in 2017-18, assisting once.
