Fred confirms Manchester United talks are at 'an advanced stage'
Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred has confirmed discussions over a transfer to Manchester United are at "an advanced stage," but would prefer to leave the paperwork to his agent while he focuses on Brazil's upcoming World Cup campaign.
The Red Devils are apparently prepared to part with €50 million (£43.7 million) to bring in the deep-lying midfielder as their first acquisition of the summer.

"Talks have been at an advanced stage since January, if I am not mistaken," Fred said, as reported by ESPN FC's Rob Dawson. "There was a possible transfer to (Manchester) City. Shortly after, both clubs - City and United - talked with Shakhtar and with my agents about a possible transfer.
"And if I am not mistaken, there was news of a strong bid by United. But I am focused solely on the World Cup."
Fred has predominantly operated as a defensive midfielder for Shakhtar, but can also play at left-back, which has been an area of concern for Jose Mourinho. The 25-year-old appeared eight times for his club in the 2017-18 Champions League term and has won seven international caps since making his Brazil debut in 2014.
It is his commitment to his country that means his representatives, a collective fronted by an ex-Arsenal midfielder, will be left to deal with much of the small print regarding his potential move to United.
"My agents are taking care of this, led by Gilberto Silva. He's a very calm guy, one that I give all the freedom (to decide), as he is someone I deeply trust."
The midfield department at Old Trafford was recently weakened by Michael Carrick moving onto the coaching staff, while Marouane Fellaini is still stalling on extending his stay with United.
