Report: Manchester City, Napoli agree to initial £43M fee for Jorginho
The Jorginho transfer saga finally appears close to completion.
Manchester City has agreed to an initial £43-million fee (€49 million) for the Napoli midfielder and is expected to sign the 26-year-old to a five-year contract once the move is finalised, according to Ed Aarons and Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian.
The Citizens are believed to have been vying for the Italian international's signature for a couple of months, with boss Pep Guardiola pinpointing the Brazilian-born playmaker as his preferred replacement for Yaya Toure.
Jorginho has been a pivotal piece in Maurizio Sarri's 4-3-3 system at Napoli, which finished second in Serie A behind seven-time reigning champion Juventus. He would frequently start alongside Allan and one of Marek Hamsik or Piotr Zielinski in a midfield-three, and was responsible for pulling the strings from deep.
The Premier League champions are also said to still be negotiating a deal with Leicester City for Riyad Mahrez, who was last reported to cost approximately £60 million.
