Report: United will veto Mourinho's transfer targets again in January
Jose Mourinho could be set for more misery at Manchester United in January, as the club's hierarchy reportedly plans to veto the manager's preferred transfer targets for the second window in a row.
After a rocky summer which saw United recruit midfielder Fred and teenage full-back Diogo Dalot fail to strengthen the team's key weakness in central defense, it emerged that the club had chosen not to pursue deals for several players Mourinho had identified, including Yerry Mina and Jerome Boateng.
And it seems Ed Woodward and Co. will repeat that hard stance during the January window. ESPN's Rob Dawson reports the Red Devils are preparing to say no to the Portuguese coach again.
United are willing to spend in the winter market, but only if the right opportunity arises. Dawson reports Mourinho has highlighted Inter's Martin Skriniar, AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli, and Fiorentina's Serbian star Nikola Milenkovic as primary central defensive targets.
The last time United signed more than a single senior player during the January window was in 2009. None of the three signings made then - Serbian pair Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic, and defender Ritchie de Laet - worked out well for the team.
