Twitter reacts to Manchester United's latest roller-coaster ride
Much like the 2018-19 season to date, Manchester United's sojourn on the south coast was rife with peaks and valleys.
Naturally, the first half of Saturday's trip to Southampton was as mercurial as United's roller-coaster campaign, and for the fourth time this season in the league, Jose Mourinho's charges conceded twice in the opening stanza.
Here's a look at how an ever-impulsive Twitter reacted to the 2-2 draw at St. Mary's.
Some pre-match thoughts on Mourinho's squad selection
Matic, Jones, McTominay are the back three. This has to be the worse back three to ever play on any premier league team ever! #mufc
— ADEWALE ADELEKE (@ChairmanHKN) December 1, 2018
Matic. Playing where ? We are looking finished. 😭

That's not a great stat
Great stats on @btsport which sum up Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd... pic.twitter.com/Wrs1fHwcSj

Stuart Armstrong makes it 1-0
Pathetic #MUFC defending in the build-up. Redmond allowed to glide along the edge of the United area with considerable ease. Super finish from Armstrong. 1-0 #SaintsFC

😱 Stuart Armstrong gives Southampton the lead against United!#SOUMUN#SaintsFC pic.twitter.com/6pFg5TuxeT

Cedric Soares doubles Southampton's advantage
2-0 Southampton. Cedric Soares - yes, that's right - bends a magnificent free-kick into top corner!
— Jacob Steinberg (@JacobSteinberg) December 1, 2018
Not sure if Cristiano Ronaldo or Cedric Soares pic.twitter.com/8VZNyaZUpP

Scott McTominay's positioning for the free-kick is, well, weird
Maybe McTominay should’ve spent less time sniffing Lukaku’s arse and more time defending the freekick. Time and place. pic.twitter.com/lIwLqgDovp
— Nooruddean (@BeardedGenius) December 1, 2018
Maybe for the next Saints free-kick MUFC wall could collectively hold McTominay above their heads & see if that works better

Marcus Rashford is crap
Excruciating to watch. Marcus Rashford has been nothing short of disappointing to watch this season.
— Liam Canning (@LiamPaulCanning) December 1, 2018
So is Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku is so crap man how did united pay 75m for a guy who sweats from beefing with his first touch
— 🍑 (@ForzaRonaIdo) December 1, 2018
They're both crap
Lukaku and Rashford is the combination of crap
— Inverted Winger (@Albet_isla) December 1, 2018
Lukaku scores... finally. 2-1. Game on
981 - Romelu Lukaku's strike vs Southampton has ended a run of 12 games and 981 minutes without a goal for Manchester United in all competitions since netting against Watford in September. Relief. pic.twitter.com/xpoVjUoa1X

Lukaku is still crap
Lukaku has the touch of a bouncy castle
— Ste (@stedee405) December 1, 2018
Lukaku is still shite

Only Lukaku could tackle himself. 😂 Mourinho subbed him two minutes after this. 🤦♂️ pic.twitter.com/s7DgSG7Z1Z

Ander Herrera levels for the visitors
Mastersroke by Mourinho to convince his players it was already the second half before the first had ended.

Terrific comeback. Announce Mourinho contract extension @ManUtd
— Si Lloyd (@SmnLlyd5) December 1, 2018
If Mourinho was trying to send a message/get sacked/infuriate with his team selection, he didn't factor in the awfulness of #Saints
— Neil McLeman (@NeilMcLeman) December 1, 2018
HT #SOUMUN 2-2 #MUFC
Rashford is good again
Since criticising him, Rashford's really stepped up. Much better and more direct. Thank me later.
— Liam Canning (@LiamPaulCanning) December 1, 2018
Rashford is unreal 🔥
— Jodi Jones (@JodsJones) December 1, 2018
Wonderful play from Rashford, who will probably be reprimanded later for being so direct. #MUFC
— Peter Hall (@PeteHall86) December 1, 2018
Electric stuff from Mourinho's charges
Minutes remaining, Manchester United are urgently in search of a last-gasp winner as Phil Jones and Nemanja Matic stroke sideways passes to each other on the halfway line as every Southampton player stands behind the ball.
— Si Lloyd (@SmnLlyd5) December 1, 2018
Following the comeback, Jose Mourinho has decided against making any changes. No substitutes warmed up during break. Will have delivered some calm instructions at the break but United can't afford another false start. Only bottom five in table have conceded more goals #mufc

And it ends 2-2 at St. Mary's
Jose Mourinho couldn't beat Mark Hughes
