Report: Ex-Huddersfield boss Wagner to be named Schalke manager
Former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is on the verge of a return to football as FC Schalke 04's new manager, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport.
Wagner has been out of a job since January when he left Huddersfield midway through the team's second-ever season in the Premier League. Huddersfield were relegated just over two months after his departure.
Reports suggested he was eager to return to the touchline in the near future, with England and Germany believed to be his preferred destinations.
Although he was linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in March, Wagner has reportedly had discussions with Schalke officials regarding the possibility of replacing interim manager Huub Stevens at the end of the season.
Stevens was named caretaker manager last month after Domenico Tedesco was sacked following a 7-0 Champions League loss to Manchester City.
Before last weekend's surprise 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, there was uncertainty as to whether Schalke could avoid relegation. But the three points collected in the Revierderby gave Schalke a six-point cushion with three matches remaining.
