Outgoing Arsenal midfielder Ramsey to miss rest of season
Aaron Ramsey's career at Arsenal is over after manager Unai Emery confirmed the midfielder, who's already agreed to join Juventus this summer, will miss the remainder of the current season because of a hamstring injury.
Emery revealed that Ramsey has been ruled out of Thursday's Europa League semifinal clash with Valencia and added that he won't return in time even if Arsenal manages to secure a place in the competition's final on May 29, according to BBC Sport's David Ornstein.
Ramsey expressed his disappointment at being unable to finish the season but says he's looking forward to being at Emirates Stadium this weekend for the team's final home match of the season when Arsenal take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
"It saddens me to say that the game against Napoli was my last game in an Arsenal shirt," Ramsey said on Instagram.
"Unfortunately, it left me with an injury that rules me out of the remaining games. I am really disappointed not to play until the end and give everything for the club while I am still an Arsenal player. Unfortunately, it's out of my hands, but I wanted to say thank you to the fans for your support.
"It has been a journey, on and off the field, and so much has happened in 11 years. I was a spotty young kid coming in and I'm leaving a man, married, father of three boys, and full of pride and good memories that I will treasure.
"It will be emotional this weekend - my last game at home. I look forward to seeing you there and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for everything."
The 28-year-old Ramsey suffered the injury in the 34th minute of Arsenal's quarterfinal victory at Napoli on April 18.
Since that time, Arsenal have lost three consecutive matches against Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton, and Leicester City, putting a major dent in their hopes of securing a Champions League spot for next season. The team currently sits two points back of fourth-place Chelsea with two matches remaining.
Ramsey will end his 11-year association at Arsenal this summer when his contract expires and he joins Juventus on a free transfer. The midfielder signed a four-year contract with the Italian champions in February.
He initially joined the north London outfit in 2008 from Cardiff City for £4.8 million and went on to score 64 goals in 369 appearances, including the game-winning goals that helped Arsenal capture the FA Cup in 2014 and 2017. He also played the full 90 minutes of Arsenal's FA Cup final victory in 2015.
