Kompany injured as Anderlecht extend winless run

It's safe to say Anderlecht's season hasn't gone as planned so far.

A day after relinquishing his matchday coaching duties, player-manager Vincent Kompany is likely set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in Anderlecht's 1-0 loss to defending Belgian league champions Genk on Friday.

The injury puts Kompany in danger of missing his Manchester City testimonial match, which takes place at the Etihad Stadium on Sept. 11.

Meanwhile, the loss extended Anderlecht's winless run to five matches and leaves the club with just two points heading into matchday six.

The Manchester City legend took to Twitter to deliver a positive message, insisting he will continue to field a youthful side regardless of Anderlecht's poor form.

Kompany lasted 15 minutes before limping off the pitch, only to watch his club concede a second-half winner to continue its worst start to a season in 21 years.

"It is too early to say how long he will be out but it looks like he'll have to miss at least one or two matches," Simon Davies, who took over the matchday coaching duties, said after the loss, according to Reuters.

Kompany rejoined Anderlecht on a three-year contract earlier this summer after 11 trophy-filled campaigns at Manchester City.
