Pogba: Family advised me to leave Manchester United for Juventus
Paul Pogba's decision to leave Manchester United for Juventus materialized after his family advised him to make the move, the midfielder has revealed.
The 27-year-old left the club after his contract expired in 2012, having become frustrated by a lack of playing time. He returned four years later when the Red Devils paid a then-world record fee to reacquire the Frenchman.
"My brother, the United fan, told me he was really angry - even more than me - when I didn't play," Pogba said during an appearance on Manchester United's official podcast.
"He told me: 'No, go. You can play in this team. If they don't want you here, go somewhere else. They will see.'"
Pogba was on the field for just 67 minutes during the 2011-12 Premier League season. He went on to become an essential part of Juventus' midfield, winning four Serie A titles in Turin.
However, there was one member of the Pogba family who was confident all along that the World Cup winner would return to Old Trafford.
"My mother always told me: 'You will go somewhere but come back,'" Pogba said. "She always said this. ... She said, 'You will come back to Manchester, don't worry.' And I did."
Injuries limited Pogba to only seven Premier League appearances prior to the shutdown this season, and amid a frustrating campaign, he's again been tipped to leave United. Both Juventus and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in acquiring his services when the transfer window opens.
