The Football Association charged English international and Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier with misconduct after he allegedly breached FA's betting rules.
The 29-year-old allegedly broke the rules in July 2019 and has until May 18 to respond to charges.
Trippier responded to the charge, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone, saying: "While a pro footballer, I have at no stage placed football related bets or received financial benefit from others betting."
The defender joined Atletico Madrid last summer after a successful spell at Tottenham. He also starred for England at the 2018 World Cup.
In March, former Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge was given a four-month worldwide ban after being found guilty of breaking betting rules.
