Report: 6 Chelsea players have COVID-19, 2 others in quarantine
At least six Chelsea players have tested positive for COVID-19 and an additional two players are self-isolating after coming in close contact with an infected person, according to The Telegraph's Sam Wallace and Mike McGrath.
The group of eight reportedly includes Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Emerson, and Michy Batshuayi.
A number of those players returned from a trip to Mykonos. The club gave players permission to go on holiday because the UK government doesn't require those returning from the Greek island to self-isolate.
It's unclear whether Abraham and Mount will be allowed to take part in England's Nations League matches early in September. Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate named the two players to his 23-man squad on Tuesday.
The development comes mere weeks before the start of the new Premier League campaign, severely disrupting Frank Lampard's preseason preparations. Chelsea kick off the 2020-21 campaign Sept. 14 against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Thiago Silva, who's widely expected to join the Blues on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, will also have to spend 14 days in quarantine upon his arrival in London, according to Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol. The Brazilian is reportedly undergoing a medical in Milan on Thursday.
