Error-prone Pickford dropped to Everton bench for 'rest'
Jordan Pickford was picked on the bench for Everton's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday.
Robin Olsen, who joined on loan from Roma on transfer deadline day, was chosen to start ahead of Pickford in the Toffees' goal.
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti said Pickford's omission is to give his No. 1 a rest and added that the English international will return to the starting XI next Saturday.
The former Sunderland shot-stopper has drawn criticism in recent weeks after his error-strewn displays from last season continued into the new campaign.
"There is no technical reason, I wanted to give him a rest for this game," Ancelotti said before the match, according to the Liverpool Echo's Phil Kirkbride. "(And) give the opportunity to Olsen to have minutes. Jordan will be back for the next game against (Manchester) United."
