Firmino fires Liverpool to last-gasp win over title rivals Tottenham
Roberto Firmino thumped a 90th-minute header into the top corner to grasp a 2-1 win for Liverpool over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
The dramatic victory allowed the reigning Premier League champions to move three points clear of Spurs at the top of the table.
Spurs were second best in the opening stanza but Heung-Min Son ensured his side went into the break level when he finished after a fine pass by Giovani Lo Celso. Mohamed Salah's deflected effort had given Liverpool the lead earlier in the half.
Tottenham had greater purpose after their halftime team talk, but Harry Kane and Steven Bergwijn both squandered inviting chances to put their side in the lead.
And just when it appeared the match would peter out into a draw, Firmino met Andy Robertson's corner with an emphatic header.
"The draw will probably be a fair result but to lose it is really, really unfair. But that's football," Mourinho told BBC Radio 5 Live post-match.
"We have to score. Period. Especially in those moments as they were suffering every time we recovered the ball, they were in trouble. So, it was a moment to hurt, a moment to kill it, and we didn't."
Mourinho also complained about Jurgen Klopp's exuberant behavior in the technical area and suggested his Liverpool counterpart received preferential treatment from the officials. The managers exchanged words on the touchline after the final whistle sounded.
"I told him (Klopp) the best team lost and he disagreed, but that's his opinion. If I behave the same way he does on the touchline, I do not stay there," Mourinho said, according to BBC Sport. "That's animated? For some reason I am different ..."
