Manchester United completed the signing of Mason Mount on Wednesday after agreeing to a deal with Chelsea reportedly worth as much as £60 million.

United will pay Chelsea an initial £55 million and a potential £5 million in ambitious add-ons, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

The Red Devils reportedly submitted multiple bids for Mount before reaching an agreement with the Blues. United improved on their first offer of £40 million, with Chelsea eventually compromising after demanding closer to £70 million.

"It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career," Mount said. "Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies."

The midfielder will wear the iconic No. 7 shirt at Old Trafford.

Mount is the seventh marquee player to leave Stamford Bridge via transfer in a summer clearout necessitated by Chelsea's rampant spending over the last 12 months. The west London side has raised over £150 million in player sales this month, according to estimates from transfermarkt.com.

Chelsea reportedly made multiple attempts to sign the 24-year-old to a new contract, but the player was determined to leave with just one year remaining on his deal. Mount said he was excited about the prospect of joining Erik ten Hag's team.

"Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.

Having made just 20 Premier League starts for Chelsea last season, the English midfielder stands to gain more playing time alongside Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford.

A product of Chelsea's academy, Mount recorded 33 goals and 33 assists in 193 appearances for the senior team. He also spent time on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem and Championship outfit Derby County.
