PFA awards: Haaland named best men's player, Daly voted top women's player
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland won the Professional Footballers' Association's men's player of the year award on Tuesday, beating out teammates Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones, along with former Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.
Arsenal's Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka were also nominated for the award.
Haaland scored 52 goals, including a single-season record of 36 in the Premier League, during City's historic treble-winning campaign. It was the Norwegian's first season in England.
Chameleonic star Rachel Daly took home the women's player of the year award after excelling in multiple positions for Aston Villa and England. Daly led all scorers in the Women's Super League last season with a record-tying 22 goals in 22 appearances and showed her versatility by starting six of England's even Women's World Cup matches at the left-back and wing-back positions.
Daly ends Chelsea's stranglehold on the individual honor. Sam Kerr (2022), Fran Kirby (2021), and Bethany England (2020) won the last three editions.
The awards were decided by votes cast by players in England's top four divisions.
Saka, who powered Arsenal's title charge last season, and Lauren James, one of the breakout stars at the 2023 Women's World Cup, earned recognition as the PFA's best young players. Saka, 21, finally got his hands on the trophy after earning nominations in each of the last three seasons. Haaland, 23, was also nominated for the award.
Five City players made the PFA men's team of the year, followed by four from runners-up Arsenal.
Manchester United and Manchester City led the way with three representatives each in the PFA women's team of the year.
