Liverpool complete midfield overhaul by signing Gravenberch from Bayern

Liverpool's midfield rebuild is complete.

The Reds confirmed the signing of Ryan Gravenberch on Friday, finalizing a deal with Bayern Munich worth around €40 million, according to James Pearce of The Athletic. Gravenberch reportedly inked a five-year contract after completing his medical tests on Merseyside.

"I'm very happy that the deal is done and I'm finally here," said Gravenberch, who has long been a transfer target for Jurgen Klopp's team. "If you see it from the outside, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also the fans, the stadium, I think everything from the outside is top."

The promising midfielder, 21, only joined Bayern last summer from Ajax but was seeking more playing time after spending much of his first season in Munich on the bench.

The German giants paid an initial €18.5-million fee to sign the Dutchman, but he made only six starts in 34 appearances across all competitions.

"He's one of the biggest talents in Europe, has superb technical ability, always finds solutions in tight spaces, is very dynamic and a goal threat," Hasan Salihamidzic, who's since left his role as Bayern sporting director, said when Gravenberch joined the Bavarians in June 2022.

Gravenberch regularly anchored the midfield alongside new West Ham United recruit Edson Alvarez during his final season with Ajax and will look to establish himself as a key figure alongside fellow summer signings Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo at Anfield.

Liverpool were on the hunt for midfield reinforcements after the departures of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
