Report: Man United flop Antony close to joining Real Betis on loan
Manchester United winger Antony appears set to attempt to revive his career in Spain as his club and Real Betis near a loan agreement until the end of the season, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The second-most expensive signing in United's history was named on the bench for Sunday's Premier League visit from Brighton & Hove Albion. However, it's expected to be the last time Antony is named in a matchday squad for the club this season before the final details of his La Liga loan are resolved, Romano reports.
United are likely to cover a portion of Antony's wages if the temporary move to Betis goes through, a source told ESPN's Rob Dawson. The Brazilian signed a contract until 2027 with the option of an additional year when he joined United from Ajax for around €95 million in 2022.
Paul Pogba remains United's most expensive recruit from when he returned to Old Trafford from Juventus for at least €105 million in 2016.
Red Devils ex-manager Erik ten Hag brought Antony to the club after he starred for his former team, Ajax. He's struggled to make an impression in English football, with just five goals and three assists over 61 Premier League outings, and hasn't started a top-flight game since May.
