Van Nistelrooy's Leicester break miserable record amid run of home defeats

Leicester City became the first club since the 1888 formation of England's Football League to lose eight consecutive home matches without scoring Monday, setting the new record with a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's Foxes are on the brink of relegation as they're 15 points adrift of safety with seven Premier League matches remaining. Somewhat surprisingly, Leicester are only the second-worst team in England's top flight because they have seven more points than Southampton, who suffered the earliest relegation in Premier League history Sunday.

Leicester, Southampton, and Ipswich Town were promoted from the Championship last season. Ipswich are also close to an immediate return to the second tier due to the 12-point gap between them and 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Trouble in the Foxes' den

The aggregate score of Leicester's last eight league matches at home is 0-21.

Leicester's 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in January marks the only time they scored over their last 11 Premier League home or away matches.

In Leicester's latest setback, Jacob Murphy's brace and ex-Leicester player Harvey Barnes' goal put the game out of the hosts' reach before halftime. The loudest cheer from the home support came when Jeremy Monga was brought on as a substitute for his debut. At 15 years and 271 days old, he's the second-youngest player in Premier League history after Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri (15 years and 181 days).
