Report: Amorim informs United players he's staying; Garnacho told to leave
Ruben Amorim made clear to his Manchester United players Saturday that he's going nowhere, sources told The Athletic's David Ornstein.
Amorim also told United winger Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club, according to Ornstein.
The Portuguese coach said after Wednesday's loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final that he'd leave United without compensation if management no longer felt he was the right man to lead the club's rebuild.
"But I will not quit," Amorim added. "I'm really confident in my job. And as you can see, I will not change nothing in the way I do things."
Garnacho appears to be the collateral damage of Amorim's approach. The Argentinian signed a new contract with United in April 2023 while Erik ten Hag was in charge but was dropped from the squad early in Amorim's reign and questioned his limited role in the Europa League final.
Napoli reportedly attempted a January move for Garnacho, and while United rejected those advances, they're now likely to listen to offers. The sale of a homegrown player like Garnacho would go down as pure profit and help United meet the Premier League's financial rules ahead of their second straight season without Champions League football.
Amorim has only won six Premier League games since replacing Ten Hag in November. Even if United win their final match of the season Sunday against Aston Villa, they can only finish as high as 14th place, by far their worst position in any single Premier League campaign.
They set their previous low last year when Ten Hag's side ended up eighth.
