Report: Cesc Fabregas out 3 weeks with thigh muscle tear
Perhaps Cesc Fabregas shouldn't have featured for Chelsea against Liverpool.
Spanish outlet AS reported on Sunday that the Premier League's assist leader is set to spend three weeks on the sidelines due to a thigh muscle injury that he played through over the weekend.
Jose Mourinho acknowledged on Saturday that Fabregas wasn't 100 percent fit for his side's 2-1 win at Anfield, a match in which the playmaker was on the pitch from start to finish. The Chelsea manager also controversially stated that Fabregas will be unable to take part in Spain's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus because of the injury.
AS claims that Spain's medical staff are set to certify Chelsea's medical assessment of Fabregas, at which time he'll be officially dropped from Vicente del Bosque's squad.
Of course, this whole situation is looking eerily familiar to the one involving Diego Costa, who was omitted from Spain's squad because of concerns over his fitness but has since returned to action for Chelsea. Mourinho denied any involvement in Spain's decision regarding Costa.
