Luis Suarez says La Liga defenders are 'more skilful' than in EPL

With only one goal in eight appearances this season, Luis Suarez is clearly still adjusting to life at Barcelona.

That's not to say that Suarez has been in poor form. As his five assists suggest, he already has the ability to link up well with his teammates. The Catalan club's scoring options run far deeper than those at Liverpool - Suarez was likely bound to find the back of the net on fewer occasions upon arriving at the Camp Nou.

However, according to El Canibal, who scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season for Brendan Rodgers' side, part of the reason for the lack of goals is down how backlines operate in La Liga.

"In the Premier and at Liverpool teams rarely close up shop," Suarez told Barcelona's official website. "You always have space to move in, in which to take on opponents. The defenders are strong, quicker, more corpulent... I was used to them.

"Here they are more skillful, they complement each other and play tighter together. They know how much danger Barca can cause and so it can be quite difficult sometimes."

While Suarez's words suggest that defending in La Liga is superior to its English counterpart, it's safe to assume it's only a matter of time before he begins scoring at a furious rate once again.
