QPR's Harry Redknapp says lucrative wages preventing Shaun Wright-Phillips' exit
Money appears to be the motivation behind Shaun Wright-Phillips' refusal to leave Queens Park Rangers.
Wright-Phillips, who's making an estimated £65,000 per week, looks to be perfectly content collecting his sky-high wages in a reserve role with QPR.
Even the team's manager, Harry Redknapp, understands the logic behind the player's decision to stay with the club.
"Let's all sit and talk straight. When you're earning X amount of pounds, and someone wants to give you money that's nowhere near that, you're not going to go are you?" Redknapp told reporters Friday.
"It's no-one's fault that Shaun's got a great contract. Good luck to him, someone gave it to him. It's all about opinions, someone else could come in and put Shaun straight in the team. That's the game."
Wright-Phillips joined QPR in 2011 from Manchester City, but he's had a difficult time getting first-team action over the last couple seasons, making just one appearance during the current campaign in a Capital One Cup match defeat to Burton in August.
Proposals from various teams have been submitted for his services, yet Wright-Phillips seems quite happy with his position within the team.
"He comes out, trains well, works hard, earns fantastic money. He's got a great contract, good luck to him," Redknapp said. "When he's had a chance on loan, Blackburn, Bolton, Charlton, they've come in for him and he's said, 'I'm not interested.' He didn't want to know.
"He wouldn't consider it, he doesn't want to go on loan. But even a permanent deal, who's going to pay the same money he has here? It's difficult."
Wright-Phillips defended his decision to remain at Loftus Road on social media Friday.
"I'm not at QPR to go back and forth. I'm fit and ready to do my bit in this relegation fight as they may need me at some point. I believe in myself and know what I'm capable of," he explained.
