Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta reportedly extended his contract to remain at the Emirates Stadium through the 2016 season.
Arteta's agent, Inaki Ibanez, says his client came to an agreement with the club that adds a year to the four-year contract he signed in 2011, according to French publication Foot Mercato.
"Mikel is no longer free next June, because he now has an extra year on his contract," Ibanez said.
It's positive news for the Spaniard during a difficult time as he continues his recovery from ankle surgery. The original prognosis suggested he will miss three months after the procedure was performed shortly after the new year.
