Police launch investigations after Chelsea fans filmed abusing black man on train
Disturbing footage was obtained by the Guardian on Tuesday showing Chelsea supporters preventing a black man from boarding a Metro train at the Richelieu-Drouot stop in Paris.
The ugly scene, which also included chants of "We're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it," took place ahead of Chelsea's 1-1 Champions League draw at Paris Saint-Germain.
Police in Paris and London have launched investigations into the incident.
According to the Guardian, a source in the Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed that police have begun an investigation into crimes of racial violence on public transport, being handled by a police branch that specializes in crimes related to football hooliganism.
In London, meanwhile, Scotland Yard has promised to study the footage in an attempt to identify the Chelsea supporters who were involved.
Furthermore, UEFA has condemned the incident but insisted it can't take action against Chelsea as its authority only extends to incidents that take place at football grounds.
Those found guilty could face at least three years in prison and a fine of €45,000, the Guardian reports.
