West Ham supporters caught singing anti-semitic song could face lifetime ban

A day after being applauded for their response to racist Chelsea supporters, West Ham fans are under scrutiny following the emergence of a video depicting fans of the club singing a song that promotes intolerance.

West Ham issued a warning Monday for supporters who may have taken part in an anti-Semitic song prior to Saturday's Premier League fixture against Tottenham.

"If any individual is found to have behaved in an inappropriate way, the club's simple, zero-tolerance policy dictates that they will face the strongest possible action, including the option of a life ban from the Boleyn Ground," a West Ham spokesperson said, courtesy of Sam Cunningham from the Daily Mail.

A group that seeks to remove discriminatory behaviour from football, Kick It Out, contacted police in regards to the distasteful footage of supporters on a train en route to White Hart Lane, the BBC reports.

The team is also asking fans who witnessed the incident to contact them or the police.

A small group of supporters recently released a video mocking Chelsea supporters for their abhorrent treatment of a black man in Paris. Instead of denying access on a train, West Ham fans, in an pre-planned video, happily welcomed a black man onto the train. It was the antithesis of how Chelsea fans treated a commuter in Paris ahead of their Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

But now another group have virtually erased the positive reception of the previous day's video with a short clip making fun of Jewish beliefs.

Tottenham, a team traditionally known for its Jewish following, have requested that fans in the video be punished to the full extent of the law.

"Anti-Semitism in any form is wholly unacceptable and we support all efforts to kick it out of the game," a Spurs spokesperson said.

"We hope that those individuals responsible for this vile behaviour are identified and dealt with in the strongest way possible."
