Juventus' Buffon mocks Manchester United's decision to let Pogba leave
Sir Alex Ferguson likely retired with few regrets after leading Manchester United to yet another Premier League-winning season in 2013 following an illustrious career at Old Trafford.
Yet the decision to allow Paul Pogba to leave on a free transfer a year earlier continues to haunt those associated with the club since his meteoric rise with Juventus.
The Italian team's legendary 'keeper, Gianluigi Buffon is the latest critic of United's decision to offload one of the world's most talented midfielders as he derided the Premier League club's decision to deny Pogba a chance to break into the first team.
“I have been in football many years but the decision of Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United to not play Pogba and let him leave is one of the strangest I have ever seen," Buffon admitted to reporters.
"After just a few training sessions we saw how good he was. It cannot have been the same player they saw in Manchester - we thought they maybe needed glasses.”
The Serie A champions will put an astronomical price tag on Pogba if they ever decide to sell the French international, lining themselves up for a massive profit on the £800,000 they paid for his services in 2012.
"Pogba can do things only Pogba can, similar to (Lionel) Messi and (Cristiano) Ronaldo," Buffon said.
