Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly pressing ahead with its pursuit of Toby Alderweireld while Southampton contemplates legal action against Atletico Madrid for selling him to another team.

According to Sky Sports, the Belgian centre-back is set to sign for Tottenham after completing a medical and agreeing to terms with chairman Daniel Levy over the weekend.

Alderweireld spent last season on loan at Southampton, who is apparently considering legal action against Atleti for doing a deal with another club. An agreement valued at £6.8 million was allegedly in place to make his move to St. Mary's Stadium permanent, of which Atleti had to pay £1.5 million itself but did not do so within the agreed-upon time frame.

It was also reported on Tuesday that Alderweireld had told his friends of his desire to join Tottenham as he's attracted to the prospect of playing alongside international teammate Jan Vertonghen and believes there's a better chance of European football at White Hart Lane.

Should Alderweireld complete a move to Tottenham, a financial settlement is apparently the likely outcome of Southampton's legal feud with Atleti.
