It was reported on Thursday that Darmian, 25, will undergo a medical at United on Friday in what would be the final step in securing a £13-million transfer.

Should Darmian pass his reported medical and put pen to paper, he'll become United's second signing of the summer transfer window following the transfer of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven.
While Darmian is versatile enough to feature as a defensive midfielder and as a centre-back, he's primarily a wing-back and would likely take the pitch on the flanks of the 3-5-2 formation for which Van Gaal is renowned.
Supporters of United may already be aware of his skill set, however, as he was included in Italy's starting XI for its 2-1 win versus England at last year's World Cup, and did an admirable job of containing a potential future teammate in Wayne Rooney.
