Manchester United is reportedly targeting one of the three players who scored against the club in the 2010-11 Champions League final.

According to The Telegraph, manager Louis van Gaal is ready to trigger Pedro's £22-million release clause in order to secure the Spanish forward's services from Barcelona. Furthermore, Old Trafford is apparently the 27-year-old's favoured destination amid interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Guardian reports that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward flew home from the club's preseason tour of the United States in order to address Van Gaal's hopes of signing Pedro. However, Woodward will return to North America before United and Barcelona meet in Santa Clara on Thursday.

Pedro notched six goals and six assists through 35 appearances last season, 20 of which were as a substitute. Having understandably fallen behind Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar in Barcelona's pecking order, he would almost certainly receive significantly more playing time at United, who did not possess a consistent scoring threat last season.

Last month saw Pedro put pen to paper on a contract extension until 2019, but it is apparently understood that he only committed to the new deal after negotiating a reduction in his release clause from £110 million to £22 million.
