Louis van Gaal says Manchester United's mystery signing is not a striker
Louis van Gaal added another twist to his cryptic messages about Manchester United's mystery signing.
The Dutch boss denied reports that the team's newest arrival will be a forward, throwing off various media outlets that attempted to guess which striker was on his way to Old Trafford.
"I don't know if I want to buy a striker. I have read in the media a striker is the surprise. That's not what I said. I mean something else," van Gaal told reporters after United's 3-1 win against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Despite the departures of Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce and Radamel Falcao to Chelsea, van Gaal says he's comfortable with deploying Wayne Rooney and/or new signing Memphis Depay up front.
"We have Rooney, he can play in striker's position, and all media had written he should play there so I listen and now you put this question so I don't know what you want," van Gaal said.
If and when a new signing arrives, his arrival at Old Trafford should add to United's impressive summer on the transfer market, where it's been able to capture Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
