Manchester United will attempt to finish the summer with a spectacular signing as it attempts to lure Gareth Bale away from Real Madrid.

Bale will once again be at the top of United's priority list during the final descent of the transfer window, sources tell Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC, as the Premier League side attempts one last push to bring the Welsh superstar back to England.

United had initially hoped to procure the services of centre-back Sergio Ramos before the Spanish international signed a new long-term deal with Los Blancos, and will now turn its attention to signing Bale, with the possibility of dangling David De Gea as a bargaining chip.

The report suggests Real Madrid's continued interest in De Gea has resulted in optimism around Old Trafford regarding the team's chances of signing Bale.

United's latest attempt to acquire Bale comes on the heels of a Tuesday report suggesting Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will not sell his world-record signing for any price. However, sources at the English outfit tell ESPN FC they are confident an alternative approach involving the Spanish 'keeper could help secure Bale's services.

United hopes to sign a top player after losing out on Ramos and Pedro, who appeared destined to wear a Red Devils uniform until Chelsea swooped in and signed him from Barcelona.

Delaney reports that chairman Ed Woodward has not given up on his pursuit of Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich, and that Everton defender John Stones remains a possible addition in the final days of the transfer season.
