Tottenham announces signing of Clinton Njie from Lyon

London - Cameroon international forward Clinton Njie has joined Tottenham from Lyon on a five-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.

Njie, who turned 22 on Saturday, arrives for an undisclosed fee, with French media reports claiming Tottenham have made an initial payment of €14 million, rising to €17 million with add-ons.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Clinton Njie from Olympique Lyonnais, subject to international clearance and the player receiving a work permit," Tottenham announced on its website.

Njie is Spurs' fourth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of defenders Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld.

He will provide competition for last season's top scorer Harry Kane and plugs a gap in manager Mauricio Pochettino's squad created by Roberto Soldado's departure to Villarreal on Friday.

Njie made his Lyon debut in November 2012 and played 43 times for the club, netting all of his seven Ligue 1 goals last season as Hubert Fournier's side finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain.

But with his path to the first-team blocked by Alexandre Lacazette, Nabil Fekir and new signing Claudio Beauvue, he has elected to pursue his career in north London.

Njie, who can play wide or through the centre, has made 11 international appearances for Cameroon, scoring six goals.
