De Gea included in Manchester United's Champions League squad; Valdes left out
Manchester United is making the best of a strange situation by replacing one Spanish 'keeper with another in its Champions League squad, with Victor Valdes making way for David De Gea.
De Gea is listed as one of three 'keepers in Manchester United's Champions League roster, joined by newcomer Sergio Romero as well as youngster Sam Johnstone.
De Gea was left out of the initial roster and was not involved in Manchester United's play-off matches against Club Brugge, with Louis van Gaal opting to start Romero, instead. But, after De Gea's move to Real Madrid fell apart, it seems the club is willing to incorporate the Spanish 'keeper into its lineup once more.
As for Valdes, the former Barcelona netminder can't get a senior team match at the moment, dropping down into the reserves while making it clear he is not pleased with his current situation.
De Gea has yet to feature in a Premier League match this season, either, but could make his first-team return when Manchester United takes on rivals Liverpool on Sept. 12.
Anthony Martial was also added to Manchester United's Champions League roster.
