Anthony Martial scores during impressive debut with Manchester United
Anthony Martial's career with Manchester United got off to a flying start after the young forward scored during his debut with the Premier League club.
The 19-year-old's first goal since joining United from AS Monaco came at a nervy moment for United as the festive atmosphere transformed after Christian Benteke's stunning bicycle-kick goal cut Liverpool's deficit in half.
United, however, didn't have to wait long for Martial to restore the team's two-goal lead.
Two minutes after Benteke's superb finish, Martial found himself on the left flank with Martin Skrtel attempting to limit space. Skrtel's efforts were futile as Martial turned him inside out while he ventured into the box before firing a composed finish past Simon Mignolet.
Martial's introduction in the 66th minute, when he replaced Juan Mata, also gave him the distinction of being the first Manchester United player to make his debut against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford since John Thompson in 1936.
