Neymar's dad confirms Manchester United submitted summer transfer bid
Manchester United's attempts to improve during the summer included an audacious attempt to acquire Neymar.
The Brazilian's father confirmed United's approach, but said a transfer to the Premier League was never a realistic possibility.
Neymar Sr. revealed he was approached by Barcelona shortly after United's bid and a decision to reject the approach was unanimous.
"Barcelona's directors came to speak with us. They said that United had made an offer, but that they didn't have any interest in accepting it. We also said that we didn't want to and the matter ended there," Neymar Sr. told Fox Sports in Brasil.
While details were not revealed, various reports suggest United were willing to dish out £240 million.
Speculation about United's attempts to complete a transfer for Neymar came as a surprise near the end of the summer transfer window, with the player's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, saying there was no truth to the rumours.
The capture of Neymar would have surely highlighted an impressive group of signings, which saw Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay and others make their way to Old Trafford.
