Leicester's Jamie Vardy sets Premier League record with goal in 11th straight match

Jamie Vardy's astonishing journey from the eighth tier of English football to the Premier League record book is complete.

The Leicester City striker, who has risen from non-league afterthought to England international, scored in his 11th consecutive Premier League match Saturday, netting against Manchester United to break a record that had stood untouched for over a decade.

Vardy, whose career includes stints at clubs with names that sound made up - Stocksbridge Park Steels, FC Halifax Town, Fleetwood Town - surpassed former United star Ruud van Nistelrooy at the top of the mountain with Saturday's goal. The Dutchman found the net in ten straight Premier League matches during the 2003 campaign.

Fitting that the Leicester star, who now leads the Premier League with 14 markers on the campaign, eclipsed that mark against the Red Devils.

The sinewy 28-year-old attacker scored the historic goal in the 24th minute of the contest at the King Power Stadium, accepting a delightful ball from Christian Fuchs before racing into the penalty area and firing a low strike beyond David De Gea to send the home crowd into raptures.
