Bolton boss Neil Lennon reveals club takeover could be close

Bolton Wanderers manager Neil Lennon has hinted that the club could be purchased as soon as next week, potentially resolving the crippling financial situation at the Macron Stadium.

Bolton was unable to pay its players for the month of November due to the coffers being practically empty. Eddie Davies, who owns the club and has been on the board since 1999, has been looking to sell for over a year. Although he's no longer providing financial backing, he says he'll write off £185 million of debt owed to him if someone purchases the Lancashire outfit.

It seems that numerous organisations are indeed interested in buying Bolton Wanderers.

"I've spoken to (adviser) Trevor (Birch) and a few board members this morning and there seems to be some green shoots of recovery now," Lennon said Thursday, according to the Press Association.

"There have been three, maybe four interested parties, and I think it's a case of first past the post really. Obviously there are a lot of guarantees to be made, a lot of negotiations to go on, but it's looking healthier than it was two or three days ago."

Brighter times could come "some time next week" for Bolton, which has been out of the English top flight since 2012, Lennon said.

"Trevor's a lot more confident now that something will get resolved. People are talking to solicitors, it's basically a question of who can come up with the money first. He seems pretty happy that something will get over the line."

Lennon's chief priority for now is to steer Bolton away from bottom place in the Championship table. The club is currently four points adrift of safety and welcomes 10th-placed Cardiff City to Horwich on Saturday.
