Report: Swansea City to fire manager Garry Monk by Wednesday

Garry Monk's time as manager of Swansea City will come to an end within the next 48 hours, after talks with the club's board failed to yield a vote of confidence, reports John Percy of The Telegraph.

That means Swansea will have to dish out £3 million in severance to Monk, who signed a three-year contract in the summer following an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

Despite losing 3-0 to Leicester City over the weekend, Monk insisted he would push on. But with just one win in 12 matches across all competitions, chairman Huw Jenkins reportedly felt he had to make a change.

According to Stuart James of the Guardian, Jenkins wanted to give Monk time to turn things around, but the threat of relegation is a genuine fear at Liberty Stadium.

It is a sad end to an 11-year relationship. Monk represented Swans at all four tiers of English football, joining the club in 2004 and serving as captain for the majority of his playing career there.

He replaced Michael Laudrup as a player-manager in February 2014, and his knowledge of the club helped guide it to unseen heights.

Reported as potential successors to Monk are Brendan Rodgers - who initially brought Swansea to the Premier League in 2011 - and Walter Mazzarri, who has coached Napoli and Inter Milan in Serie A.

David Moyes hasn't expressed interest in the Swansea job, all but ruling him out as a candidate.
