Arsene Wenger expects a busy transfer window for Arsenal
As the deal for Mohamed Elneny apparently draws nearer, Arsene Wenger has revealed that it won't be the last piece of transfer business for Arsenal this January.
Although not typically active in the winter window, Wenger has been known to make the odd deal, with Nacho Monreal joining in 2013 and Gabriel Paulista joining in 2015.
"We cannot announce anything at the moment. Nothing has been concluded," Wenger said of the deal for FC Basel's Elneny at Wednesday's media conference.
The Gunners have been hit by numerous injuries, but the position most lacking is the midfield, with Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky, and Mikel Arteta all out. There is hope Mathieu Flamini will return from an ankle problem for the Jan. 2 clash against Newcastle, however.
But there's no doubt reinforcements are needed for Arsenal's title charge.
"I will be busy that is for sure. I have already said we are short," Wenger said.
Wenger's table-topping squad welcomes Newcastle to the Emirates on Saturday before fellow Northeast outfit Sunderland visits the weekend after in the FA Cup third round.
