Report: Bayern Munich's Kirchhoff set for Sunderland medical
Sunderland is nearing a deal for Jan Kirchhoff, with the Bayern Munich defender set for a medical at the Wearside outfit.
Kirchhoff wasn't among the squad that travelled Wednesday to Qatar in order to continue work on the move that's believed to be worth about £1 million, reports Sky Sports' Mark Ashenden.
"The travelling party does not include Jan Kirchhoff, who is away with his agent concluding negotiations for a possible transfer," a statement on Bayern Munich's website revealed.
Kirchhoff spent last season on loan at Schalke where he made 14 Bundesliga appearances, but on his return to the Allianz Arena made just a brief substitute outing against Darmstadt in the DFB-Pokal round of 16.
Sunderland is languishing in 19th in the Premier League with 39 goals conceded over 20 matches - the worst defensive record in the division.
