Jermaine Jenas: 'I have officially retired' due to knee injury

Jermaine Jenas has officially retired from football following an unsuccessful recovery from a knee injury.

The 32-year-old has moved into television - appearing as a regular pundit on the BBC's iconic "Match of the Day" programme - since sustaining a cruciate ligament injury while training with Queens Park Rangers in April 2014. Since that time, the former England international has been unable to take the pitch.

"I have officially retired. I tried my best to come back from the knee injury but unfortunately that is the end of my career," the midfielder told BBC Radio 4's Today show.

Jenas began his career at Nottingham Forest before stints at Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and QPR.
