The athletic winger and central midfielder was allegedly digging his heels over the move last week, but has signed terms that will see him tied to the Tyneside outfit until 2021.
"I am very happy to be here at Newcastle," Saivet told the club website. "I am really proud to be able to play for this Club, and I am really excited at the challenge that lies ahead."
The signing for an undisclosed fee comes at a critical time for Steve McClaren's side. Premier League survival and eventually stability for Newcastle after a turbulent era is the goal, but the club is currently languishing in 18th, two points adrift of safety and with numerous other fellow Ligue 1 recruits underperforming.
"St. James' Park is a really impressive and special stadium," Saivet continued. "In France there is nothing that compares to this, and I can't wait to get out there with my new teammates and help the team climb the table."
Steve McClaren praised the player that Saivet has developed into at Bordeaux, for which he often pulled on the captain's armband.
"This is someone with a very good mentality, who is a tough player and a winner," McClaren said. "Those are key qualities you need in the Premier League and we are looking forward to seeing him pulling on the Newcastle United shirt."
Saivet is hoped to be in contention for the visit of Manchester United on Tuesday.
