Newcastle United is on the verge of upgrading its midfield with Jonjo Shelvey's impending arrival from Swansea City.
The Welsh club has accepted a £12-million offer from the Magpies, sources tell Sky Sports, as Shelvey attempts to play regular first-team football after falling out-of-favour with The Swans.
Neither team has commented on the deal, but it's expected Shelvey will undergo a medical and negotiate terms with Newcastle before the transfer is made official.
The latest proposal is an improvement on the £10-million bid that Newcastle reportedly made Monday. The offer might also be enough to fend off interest from Crystal Palace, who had Shelvey in its sights and were reportedly keen to reunite the midfielder with his former manager Alan Pardew after the pair worked together at Charlton Athletic.
Although Shelvey, 23, has struggled for playing time this season, he figures to slot right into a Newcastle squad in the middle of a relegation battle.
