West Brom's James Morrison sidelined for around 2 months

It's been a drab weekend for West Bromwich Albion.

Manager Tony Pulis confirmed fears of a lengthy layoff of six-to-eight weeks for midfielder James Morrison after the 3-0 loss at Southampton on Saturday, and also expressed concern at a knee injury sustained by skipper Darren Fletcher.

"We've had two blows. We lost Fletcher today and Morrison on Wednesday at Chelsea," Pulis told the club website.

"James has a ruptured hamstring, which is obviously a massive blow for him and us because he's a quality player. Darren's knee 'opened' up so we will see how that is. He will need a scan on that before we know how bad it is."

The defeat against the Saints ended a run of four competitive outings without a loss, but Pulis is under no illusions with which side deserved the three points.

"It was a bad day in the office. Southampton were the better side and deserved to win," Pulis admitted.

"We were flat, lacked sparkle but it would be interesting to see how many of the sides who played away for the second time in a week managed to win their second game.

"But that takes nothing away from Southampton, who deserved the victory."

West Brom faces a third-round replay at Bristol City on Tuesday before it returns to league duty against an improving Aston Villa next Saturday.
